I am a student at Johnson & Wales University in Providence. I study culinary arts and I am currently studying new world cuisine, focusing on the carribean, south and central american cuisine. Being a caribbean person myself, i decided to do my class project on Guyana and this site made my life a whole lot easier. The food list is exceptionally clear, and your definitions of unique and ethnic ingredients was exactly what i needed to develop my menu. Thank you for making this information available. Don't worry I will be sure to identify this site in my bibliography. Thank you again for your help. I learned a lot about your culture and cuisine.

How v funny, the person who left a message last is in fact my sister, she told me to look at the site as I'd find it funny. We've been brought up in an all white area and she was adpoted into a white family so this is all v alien to us. We are constantly asked where we're from, no one has gotten close to guessing correctly, she's right, it is usually Spanish or Brazilian people assume we are. Our mum is white, with Irish roots, we sure look good though. Can't wait to visit "home" one day, we're all fiercely proud of where we are from, despite being UK born.

Hey y'all, My father is Guyanese (Georgetown)and came to England in '66. I was born in the UK to a white mother, but was adopted and raised in a white family. I was just searching for info on my father's surname (Haynes) and here i am. Great, informative site and I'm learning a lot about Guyana, that I never knew. I met my natural mother and father 5 years ago and I now live in Vancouver,Canada. Funny thing is: 4 people so far, have asked me if I'm South American?! and do I speak Spanish. NEVER got that in England!. Must be something about my mix of bloods. Thanks. Annabel

My name is Skip and I am from Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. I lost contact with a girl from Guyana who lives in the Seattle area. I met her on an American Airlines flight from Dallas to Fort Lauderdale December 14th. A few of the comments she made suggested that she is in contact with a close knit community of Guyana persons in Seattle. She is about 25 to 30 I am guessing and was on her way to visit relatives in Fort Lauderdale for a few days before continuing on to Guyana for the Holidays. Her English is well spoken. If you might happen to know who this is, please pass this note along to her and let her decide if she wants to get in touch or not. Thanks. Skip By the way, Wayne, you have an excellent site. You did good. I learned a lot about Guyana that I didn't know. Maybe some day I will go there.
